Emma Roddick MSP and others visit the Sutherland Spaceport site, highlighting new opportunities for Scotland’s space industry.
MSP for the Highlands & Islands Emma Roddick has met with Orbex in Tongue last week to see the progress on the Sutherland Spaceport.
The Spaceport, which was granted planning permission in 2020, will be the first spaceport on the UK mainland capable of vertical rocket launches. There are three locations involved in the project in Scotland including Sutherland, Forres, and Kinloss.
The spaceport is another exciting addition to Scotland’s growing space sector.
Speaking on the on the opportunities it brings, Emma said:
“It was fantastic to get along to Tongue last week to speak with the team at Orbex about how the Sutherland Spaceport is progressing.
“Progress is moving quickly with the infrastructure beginning to be put in place to get the launchpad all set up, and the team is working hard to get the spaceport going.
“I’m now really looking forward to getting along to Forres next to see how things are going with the next step of building the rockets. Orbex is working on all aspects of this projects, including at three locations in Scotland.
“This is such an exciting project for the space sector not only in the Highlands, but also for Scotland, considering we now have multiple spaceport projects in progress. I’m really excited to continue following along with this project and seeing the success of the first launch in Sutherland next year.”
