To mark Climate Action Week, Highlands and Islands MSP Emma Roddick joined the Inverness Tool Library for their climate awareness morning. The event is one of several events being held as part of the Highlands and Islands Climate Festival.
The Tool Library, based in the Carse area of Inverness, enables residents to borrow tools for household and DIY projects, promoting a circular economy and reducing environmental waste. The organisation plays a key role in social inclusion by fostering community connections through volunteering and shared learning.
The event brought the local community, volunteers, and partner organisations together to raise awareness of climate change and offer opportunities for partnership working.
Emma, a strong advocate for community-led climate initiatives, said:
“I take every opportunity I can to pop into the Tool Library, not only because it’s local, but because they do incredible work. I was delighted to be invited along for their Climate Awareness morning.
“It was great to hear about the new projects they have underway, and to catch up with other community-led organisations and volunteers. Their dedication to tackling the climate crisis is commendable, and they will always have my support.
“Grassroots and community-led initiatives are spaces where real change is possible, and the Tool Library is an incredible example of that. It is a gem for Inverness – reducing waste while tackling social isolation.
“I wish the staff and volunteers the very best with their upcoming move to new premises – I look forward to popping in for a brew, a blether, and to borrow some tools.”
