Highlands and Islands MSP Emma Roddick questions Scottish Government over whisky export support

SNP MSP Emma Roddick has pressed the Scottish Government on its work to support the whisky export sector, a cornerstone of the region’s economy, amid ongoing global challenges and following a visit to Tomatin Distillery.

During the session, Ms Roddick emphasised the significant hurdles faced by the whisky industry, particularly in the wake of Brexit. She pressed the Government on how it will ensure continued support for this vital Highlands and Islands export, crucial to both local businesses and Scotland’s global trade position.

Ms Roddick commented:

“I will continue to do all I can to ensure the whisky industry, which is vital to the Highlands and Islands, can reap the rewards of its own success. This region is known for its world-class produce, and I’m hopeful the Government can provide relief to local businesses within the food and drink sector.

“Tomatin Distillery is a key local employer in a rural area, and this is often the case throughout the whisky supply chain, from workers at distilleries, shops, and experiences, all the way to those producing bottles and labels or transporting the final product.

“The continued support and success of whisky exports from the Scottish Government is necessary if we are to secure stability for whisky in times of international uncertainty, and the future of the whisky businesses in the Highlands and Islands. Local businesses can always reach out to me or my office for further assistance in tackling such challenges.”
