EMMA RODDICK MSP URGES CONTINUED ACTION TO END GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE BEYOND THE 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM

SNP MSP for the Highlands and Islands Emma Roddick has highlighted the importance of continuing to work to end gender-based violence in Scotland, stressing that this work must continue every day of the year as the 16 Days of Activism draws to a close.

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, running from the 25th of November to the 10th of December calls for an end to the violence that women and girls face and the need for societal change.

Commenting, Emma said:

“The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence serves as a vital reminder that we all have a role to play in eliminating the violence women and girls face in Scotland.

“While it is important to use the 16 Days to take time and think about what we all could do to make a change, it is not enough to take action only during this period, as we know that women and girls experience gender-based violence every single day of the year.

“Whether or not you have personally experienced gender-based violence, every single one of us will know someone who has a story about the misogyny and sexist comments they have faced.

“We must all continue to challenge ourselves and hold one another accountable – by speaking out, supporting those affected, and actively calling out harmful attitudes. We can end gender-based violence in Scotland, but this will only happen if we work together, and all play our part.”
