MSP for the Highlands and Islands Emma Roddick has welcomed recent news that the Scottish Government is investing £3 million into Orkney’s internal ferry fleet, hailing the announcement as “really positive for Orcadians.”
However, speaking to the Minister for Connectivity in the Scottish Parliament, Ms Roddick also urged the Scottish Government to continue to work in partnership with Orkney Islands Council and ensure decisions are made with the best interests of islanders at their core.
Commenting, Ms Roddick said:
“I was delighted to hear the Scottish Government announce £3 million of funding for Orkney Islands Council to replace its internal ferry fleet at the beginning of this month.
“While this is really positive news for Orcadians, who rely on these services to travel for work, education, and social opportunities, the Scottish Government must continue to work in partnership with Orkney Islands Council and consult islanders on improvements to local transport links.
“These services are vital for islanders, so their voices must be heard loud and clearly, to ensure decisions are made in their best interests.”
