Highlands & Islands MSP Emma Roddick today (Friday 16th June) paid a visit to the Outward Bound Trust’s outdoor education centre on the shores of Loch Eil in Lochaber.

The centre, which prides itself on providing visiting groups of young people with a unique outdoor learning experience, offers a wide range of activities such as kayaking, gorge walking and outdoor team-building exercises.

Ms Roddick had the opportunity to meet some young people who were finishing up one of the Trust’s 5-day courses and said it was brilliant to see first-hand the work that goes on at the centre and how much it is enjoyed.

She said:

“It was great to catch up with Martin, David, and all of the Outward Bound team at their outdoor adventure and education centre on the banks of the beautiful Loch Eil. The instructors do a fantastic job of welcoming young folk from across the country, encouraging them to enjoy everything our natural environment offers, as well as challenging them to try new things and build their confidence.

“It was brilliant to tour the site’s state-of-the-art facilities, to see the results of a recent refurbishment and to hear more about what the centre is doing to remain environmentally friendly through its hydro scheme, solar panels, and air source heating.

“I loved hearing directly from a group just coming up to the end of their 5-day course about all of the incredible adventures and activities they had been enjoying. We know just how important and enriching experiences like these can be for our young people, so seeing such a high-quality service on our doorstep is fantastic.”
