Highlands and Islands MSP Emma Roddick has highlighted the impact that Brexit has had on disabled people travelling in the EU, claiming that the UK Government has made this “less accessible”.
A disabled MSP herself, Roddick has first-hand knowledge about how valuable access to public transport is for disabled people and is known for pushing for improved accessibility.
She said:
“I hope we can all appreciate that a Blue Badge can be crucial in ensuring that disabled people can go about their daily life.
“However, Brexit means that the Blue Badge Scheme is not currently recognised in several European countries, meaning that the UK Government has now made travelling in Europe less accessible for disabled people.
“I will continue to fight for the rights of disabled people to experience all that life has to offer and only wish the UK Government would do the same.
“I also wonder how ‘DISABLED WILL LOSE EASE OF ACCESS’ would have looked on the side of the infamous Brexit bus?”
