Highlands and Islands MSP Emma Roddick has welcomed the progress on plans, announced on Tuesday, for a new £125m NHS Shetland Hospital.
The Gilbert Bain Hospital is expected to be built within the next five years and to include 100 residential units, a helipad and carbon net-zero designs.
This comes after an influx of calls for a new hospital after an audit report in 2019 showing the current building to be of a poor standard.
Commenting, SNP MSP Emma Roddick said, “I have always said that the need for a new hospital would become apparent once NHS Shetland had made their case, so I will fully support them as they progress the project.”
“It is particularly impressive that NHS Shetland has managed to pull this proposal together during a pandemic while balancing many other demands on their time and attention.”
