Emma Roddick MSP welcomes funding to help disabled constituents

Highlands and Islands MSP Emma Roddick has welcomed a new £10 million Scottish Government fund designed to increase the number of accessible toilet facilities across the region. The fund will provide up to 150 new Changing Places Toilets, which are specialist facilities for people with complex needs and disabilities who require carer support and equipment to use a toilet.

Ms Roddick is encouraging local organisations in the Highlands and Islands to apply for the fund, highlighting the positive impact these facilities will have on local people.

Ms Roddick said:

“It’s about more than just a toilet; it’s about making our communities more inclusive and welcoming for everyone. I’ve heard from so many of my constituents, families and carers who have faced barriers when trying to use local spaces, and this fund is a huge step towards breaking down those barriers.

“I am committed to representing the Highlands and Islands, and that means making sure our unique communities get their fair share of this funding. This will allow people to participate in society, whether that’s in our town centres, at tourist attractions, or in local venues. I urge all eligible organisations to seize this opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of people in our region – and please reach out to my office if I can be of assistance in the process.”

The MSP noted that over 25,000 people in Scotland with complex needs and disabilities, along with their families, stand to benefit from the new fund. The Scottish Government has invested £10 million in the Changing Places Toilets Scotland Fund to help provide these much-needed facilities.
