Emma Roddick, Highlands and Islands MSP, has continued her long-standing support and celebration of the Baby Box Scheme, first introduced in 2017.
Emma noted the success and impact of these boxes on families within the Highlands and Islands previously, when the fifth anniversary of the scheme rolled around, noting they are “more important than ever in the coming months as families face rising costs.
Since the scheme’s introduction, over 58,600 boxes have been delivered to over 58,000 households in NHS boards across the Highlands and Islands.
This scheme ensures that every newborn is supported in their early life with essentials like thermometers, clothes, and age-appropriate toys.
Ms Roddick has hailed the scheme in supporting families throughout the Highlands and Islands, commenting:
“I just love hearing about the continued success of the baby box scheme in the Highlands and Islands since its makeover 3 years ago, and the overall success in the past 8 years.
These numbers display a such positive continuation in supporting families, guardians, and parents throughout the Highlands and Islands in really tough times, particularly throughout the cost-of-living crisis when the price of essentials has spiked.
In supplying these boxes filled with essentials and supplies for new parents, we are taking away an economic burden for families, and the SNP is helping support them in their new, exciting chapter of life.”
