Highlands and Islands MSP Emma Roddick has hosted a delegation from the Liberation Convoy, which sailed from Bergen in May and visited many ports around the UK, marking fifty years since Norway’s liberation from Nazi occupation.

During its stop in Edinburgh, the convoy enjoyed an evening in the Scottish Parliament, sponsored by Emma Roddick MSP. Attended by delegates from the Norwegian Embassy, the Minister for Veterans, and many others, the event discussed the history of the Shetland Bus and ongoing relations between Scotland and Norway.

The SNP MSP said:

“It was an honour to host the Liberation Convoy in Parliament, meeting some of those who have travelled around the UK.”

“I spoke to the ongoing relationship between Shetland – and Scotland – and Norway, and the importance of continuing to value and work on relationships with other countries that share our values, our priorities, and our vision for a better, fairer future.

“Those from the project spoke so highly of the welcome they received in Lerwick and around Shetland earlier in the year. I know that the relationship between Shetland and Norway continues to hold a special place in many hearts and it was wonderful to note and celebrate that.”
