EMMA RODDICK MSP CALLS FOR HELP FOR THOSE WITH CHRONIC PAIN AND FATIGUE

MSP for the Highlands and Islands Emma Roddick has pressed the Scottish Government on the urgent need to improve healthcare for those who suffer with chronic pain and fatigue conditions like Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), Myalgic Encephalitis (ME), and Long COVID.

Ms Roddick pressed the Scottish Government on what steps it is taking to ensure that the correct training is being provided to health professionals and to continue educating people about chronic conditions.

Commenting, Ms Roddick said:

“Delays in getting the right support for chronic pain and fatigue can have truly devastating effects on people’s lives. Incorrect treatment has left some of my constituents unable to work, despite wanting to, and frustrates both them and their doctors, who aren’t always clear on expectations and routes to treatment for rare conditions.

“I know that a clear pathway for treatment of chronic pain and fatigue conditions like EDS, ME/CFS, and Long COVID, such as those being called for by EDS Support UK and #MEAction, could save a lot of trouble and suffering.

“That is why I met with the Minister for Public Health to discuss healthcare pathways and education and escalate some cases of Highland patients who have reached out to share their experiences. I know she is incredibly interested in serving these patients better and I look forward to continuing the conversation.

“I know myself the difficulty of living with joint hypermobility, pain, and fatigue, and will continue to work with colleagues cross-party and listen to those with lived experience to raise awareness about these very misunderstood chronic conditions, pushing for better treatment for those who suffer.”
