Highland Stoneware is such a staple of Sutherland that it’s hard to imagine there was a time before it – but it’s now celebrating its 50th year.

I got to spend part of the afternoon with its founder, David, who showed me pieces of the business’s past and present, and talked about how the team is developing new geological art – and we discussed the advantages of stone crusher machines over the traditional massive hammer!

David is so knowledgable and passionate about what he has done for the last 50 years, and it was a treat to hear about the business and how much it means to him, the community, and people across the world who own pieces of its work.

It was a very interesting yet claiming visit, and it’s clear that the team is very valued and skilled at what they do.

I’ve left with a new pint-sized mug; couldn’t resist the stag!
