EMMA RODDICK MSP MEETS CARBON NEUTRAL ISLANDS TEAM IN YELL

Emma Roddick MSP has met with the Carbon Neutral Islands team in Yell to hear about the work going on.

The Carbon Neutral Islands project includes six islands – Barra, Great Cumbrae, Hoy, Islay, Raasay, and Yell – and is supporting the islands in their journey to become carbon neutral by 2040.

Each island has the freedom to create their own projects to achieve carbon neutrality but are also working together towards the common goal.

Speaking after meeting some of the team, Emma said:

“I’ve been so fascinated by the works of all the teams involved in the Carbon Neutral Islands projects, so I was delighted to get to Yell to chat about what’s going on and hear about their future plans.

“It’s encouraging that the different islands working towards carbon neutrality have taken such different approaches but are still collaborating, sharing work with each other, and borrowing learning to achieve a common goal.

“This is a really exciting project happening across six of our islands, and I really look forward to following the future work in Yell and the other islands involved.  I hope that all local residents take pride in the incredible work going on to make their island one of the first to achieve this impressive feat.”
