EMMA JOINS CALLS FOR A HUMANITARIAN CORRIDOR FOR THE PEOPLE OF GAZA

Emma has joined the First Minister, Humza Yousaf MSP, in calling on the UK Government to create a humanitarian corridor for the people of Gaza.

Earlier this week at the annual SNP Conference, the First Minister called for further support for the people of Gaza. There is an estimated 1 million people currently displaced in Gaza out of the 2.2. million people who live there.

Gaza is currently running out of vital resources such as medical supplies, food, water, and electricity. The First Minister called for a humanitarian corridor to allow resources to be taken in, as well as a refugee resettlement scheme to allow the people of Gaza to leave safely.

After the First Minister’s speech, Emma said:

“I join the First Minister in urging the UK Government to immediately create a refugee resettlement scheme for those in Gaza.

“Scotland is more than willing to be the first in the UK to do our part in offering safety to the people of Gaza caught up in these horrific attacks.

“We have seen with other resettlement schemes, such as Ukraine and Syria, that Scotland is willing to provide a place of care for refugees to become much-loved members of our communities.

“The UK Government must create a route out of Gaza immediately, as basic resources are beginning to run out for its people.”
