Highlands & Islands MSP Emma Roddick this week heard from the John Muir Trust on its community projects in the areas around Lochinver and Assynt on a guided visit in the Culag Woods.
Ms Roddick was shown around the community-managed woodland by a team from the John Muir Trust as she continued her busy recess schedule.
Commenting on the visit, Ms Roddick, said.
She said:
“I loved chatting with the John Muir Trust team in Assynt and Lochinver yesterday, seeing the work they were doing in Culag Woods up close was really valuable.
“Scotland’s rainforests are such a wonderful asset for the whole country and it is vital that we do everything we can to protect and preserve them. I really enjoyed learning about all the different species which thrive in this habitat, including many which aren’t found outside of our rainforests.
“Hearing more about the local women’s deer stalking group and the work they do to ensure the restoration of biodiversity in the places the John Muir Trust has stewardship over was fascinating, and it was clear how seriously the team takes this task. I am very grateful to the whole John Muir Trust team who gave up their time to show me just a small part of the vital work they do for our natural environment.”
