Highlands & Islands MSP Emma Roddick has been helping out at one of Inverness’s community fridges this Volunteers’ Week.

The local SNP representative spent an evening picking up unsold food items from a local Nisa store and delivering them to the Good-NESS Project community fridge.

Set up in early 2021, the Good-NESS Project community fridge, located in the Barn Centre at Barn Church, redistributes surplus food from local stores in a bid to reduce food waste.

Explaining that the drop-offs were quick and straightforward, Ms Roddick urged anyone in the area that could, to consider getting involved.

She said:

“I was glad to be able to go along and give the Good-NESS a hand during this Volunteers’ Week.

“At a time when households are feeling the squeeze on budgets, and folk are looking for ways to be that bit kinder to our planet, initiatives like the Good-NESS Project community fridge really are a win-win.

“The community fridge is currently in need of more volunteers – without folk picking up and dropping off, food sadly goes to waste.

“The drop-offs here are really straightforward and don’t take long at all.  But they do make a world of difference for those using the fridge and ensure that we are doing our bit as a community to be kinder to the environment.

“I know that the Good-NESS Project would be so grateful to hear from anyone who feels they can give a bit of their time to help out.”
