SNP MSP Emma Roddick has joined the Inverness Caledonian Thistle Women’s Football Club at one of their training sessions, asking the coach and players what support they want from politicians and what their goals are for the future.
Commenting on the visit, she said:
“Women’s sport in general is far too often overlooked, but I know that interest in women’s football has been growing ever since the 2019 Women’s World Cup. I really enjoyed getting along to chat to Karen and some of the players about the challenges they face and how I can help.
“I am told that the new pitch by Inverness Royal Academy will make ICTWFC the first professional women’s football team in Scotland to have its own home ground. That’s great news for them, but also shows just how needed some extra support and encouragement the sport needs.
“I have really enjoyed getting out to support the girls at recent games, and I encourage my fellow followers of the men’s team to see if they can make it along on a Sunday, too, for that extra football fix. We could end up with two runs at promotion next year!”
