Highlands and Islands MSP Emma Roddick has today been appointed as the Deputy Convener of the Scottish Parliament’s Social Justice and Social Security Committee after the appointment of the Committee’s previous Convener, Elena Whitham MSP, to the Scottish Government.
Ms Roddick has served on the Social Justice and Social Security Committee since its formation shortly after the May 2021 Scottish Parliament Elections.
Commenting on her appointment Ms Roddick said:
“I am proud to have been appointed by my fellow committee members to the Deputy Convenership of the Social Justice and Social Security Committee. At a time of a cost of living crisis, the committee’s work in scrutinising and holding to the Scottish Government’s policies on welfare, poverty and the social security system in Scotland is more important than ever. It is an honour to be appointed to the role and to be able to support the committee in its important work is a responsibility I will work hard to live up to.
“Elena has been a fantastic Convener of the committee and I know she will make a fantastic Minister; I’m looking forward to supporting her successor as Convener, Natalie Don MSP, in continuing the vital work the committee has been doing.”
