SNP MSP ASKS SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT TO SUPPORT EARLY INTERVENTION ON SEXUAL CONSENT

Emma Roddick MSP has asked the Scottish Government to improve early intervention to prevent rape and sexual assault by teaching consent in schools.

She said:

“We know that many men who go on to commit sexual crimes first do so at a young age.  It is vital that we are making it clear to young people not only that they are able to say ‘no’, but that when someone says it to them, they have to respect it.

“It’s still a huge issue that people don’t consider what has happened to be sexual assault until years after it happens, rationalising it away.  That applies to the perpetrator as well as the victim.  It has to be made utterly clear to young people what constitutes consent and what constitutes rape.”
