SNP MSP for the Highlands & Islands, Emma Roddick, has used her column in the Highland News & Media Group to talk candidly about her own mental health experiences. As a member of the Scottish Parliament’s Cross-Party Group on Mental Health, Roddick is particularly interested in what support can be provided to those who are past the point of preventative measures being of benefit and already at serious risk. Roddick firmly believes that society must become more comfortable discussing those mental health conditions which are more difficult to understand or to combat.
Roddick writes that, “there is a reluctance to talk about or acknowledge the fact that, no matter how good your preventative measures are or how aware everyone is of depression, some people will still find themselves in crisis…we need to get better at talking about all kinds of mental health conditions.”
