Emma Roddick questions Scottish Government on depopulation

Emma Roddick has quizzed the Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Kate Forbes, on how her new Scottish Budget will address depopulation in the Highlands and Islands.

Roddick said:

“The drivers of depopulation range from infrastructure issues to wages and job opportunities, and internet connectivity to healthcare.

“If we are serious about tackling depopulation in our rural and island communities, we have to keep the issue in mind when creating all policy or determining spending priorities.

“I am glad to hear from the Cabinet Secretary – and my Highlands and Islands colleague – that she shares my concerns and has carefully considered how best to invest the money available to the Scottish Government this year in a way that will support the people of Scotland regardless of where they live.”
