SNP MSP urges constituents to respond to National Planning Framework consultation

SNP MSP Emma Roddick has urged residents of the Highlands and Islands to respond to the ongoing consultation on the fourth iteration of the National Planning Framework, which will set out Scotland’s development and infrastructure needs up to the year 2045.

Commenting, Roddick said:

“People only tend to object to or express support for proposed developments when a planning application comes in. The National Planning Framework, however, poses an opportunity for us to think bigger, discussing more generally how we use the space we have available in Scotland, and what our priorities as a country are in its use.

“The National Planning Framework will address questions such as how to secure Scotland’s journey to net zero and how to ensure that derelict and vacant land can be managed in the best interest of Scotland’s communities.

“If there is only one message I would like my constituents across the Highlands and Islands to hear it is this: do not be put off by the governmental language surrounding the National Planning Framework. The consultation is for all of you; take a look, share your views, and join the conversation.”

The consultation on the National Planning Framework is available at https://consult.gov.scot/local-government-and-communities/draft-national-planning-framework-4/ and will run until 31 March 2022.
