Highland MSP demands improvements to Highland rail infrastructure

Highlands and Islands MSP Emma Roddick has today asked the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, to ensure that the transport needs of the Highlands will not be overlooked in the Greens’ deal. Roddick is pushing for the doubling of the Highland Main Line alongside the Inverness to Aberdeen line.

Speaking remotely this afternoon, Roddick stated that while “there is a lot to look forward to in terms of this new agreement,” she wants the First Minister to confirm that there are plans in place to double both inter-city train lines serving Inverness, as well as improvements to the Far North and West Highland lines.

Roddick says: “Although promoting active travel where possible is important, it is also important to recognise that cycling or walking is not an option for everyone, especially those in rural areas.”

“We need assurances that the Green Deal will see improvements to rail infrastructure in order to benefit our communities whilst meeting our carbon management commitments.”
