The Scottish Government’s announcement that it is bringing forward the dualling of the A9 at Slochd has been welcomed by Highlands and Islands MSP Emma Roddick.
Speaking in the Scottish Parliament today following a statement from the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Ms Roddick highlighted the importance of the section, which includes grade-separated junctions for Aviemore and Carrbridge. This follows the confirmation of necessary funding in yesterday’s budget.
Ms Roddick has been a consistent voice for Highland residents, pressing the Scottish Government to ensure the dualling project remains on track to improve safety and connectivity for local communities.
The Slochd to Dalraddy section is seen as a vital component of the project, with the new junctions expected to significantly improve the flow of traffic and safety for those living in and visiting the Spey Valley.
Following the Cabinet Secretary’s update, Ms Roddick said:
“I was very pleased to hear that we are still on track with the A9 dualling, and in particular that the Slochd section is to be brought forward. The grade-separated junctions for Aviemore and Carrbridge and the associated active travel route will bring huge benefits, for safety and convenience, so, the sooner the better.
“I am committed to working with the Scottish Government to ensure this momentum continues. It is vital for my constituents in the Highlands that we see these next steps clearly outlined and delivered as quickly as possible to ensure our roads are fit for the future.”
The Highlands and Islands MSP has previously argued that infrastructure improvements must be prioritised to support the regional economy and the safety of those using the Highland arterial routes, and persistently and publicly raised the active travel route and safety around Aviemore and Carrbridge with the Transport Secretary.
The SNP has committed to the completion of the A9 dualling programme between Perth and Inverness, with several sections already progressing through various stages of procurement and construction.
