Emma Roddick MSP hails vital service of Shopmobility Highland

Highlands and Islands MSP Emma Roddick has praised the “lifeline” service provided by Shopmobility Highland, following a recent visit to the charity’s headquarters in Inverness.

The organisation, which provides community bus services and mobility equipment hire, was described by the MSP as a vital support for disabled people and those with mobility issues across the region. Ms Roddick’s mother was a member and mobility scooter user, giving her a personal connection to the charity’s work. The SNP MSP has since provided a letter of support for the charity’s funding applications.

Ms Roddick has been a long-time supporter of the organisation and saw first-hand how the charity assists people with getting around the city centre and accessing local communities. The visit comes as Shopmobility Highland seeks to secure new funding to continue its work. Ms Roddick’s ongoing advocacy is a testament to her commitment to the community and her desire to see all residents of the Highlands and Islands live with dignity and independence.

Speaking after the visit, Ms Roddick said:

“For so many in our communities, the support that Shopmobility provides is a lifeline. I know from my own experience, coming here with my mother to pick up scooters so we could get our shopping, that it makes an incredible difference to people’s ability to live independently and participate in their communities. It’s more than just providing a scooter or a bus; it’s about giving people back their freedom and connecting them to the rest of the world and the opportunities that exist in it.

“The work that Shopmobility Highland does is absolutely essential. As an MSP for the region, I am committed to supporting organisations that make such a tangible difference to people’s lives. So, I have written a letter of support for their funding applications, I truly hope they receive the support they need to continue their vital service. It would be a huge loss to the Highlands and Islands if they were unable to continue their work.”
