EMMA RODDICK MSP WELCOMES INCREASE IN SOCIAL SECURITY SUPPORT

Emma Roddick has welcomed news that from yesterday [1st of April], everyone who receives support from Social Security Scotland will see an increase in the amount of assistance they receive.

In the 2024/25 Scottish budget, despite cuts from Westminster, the SNP has prioritised helping those who need it the most – which is why all devolved social security payments will be uprated in line with inflation.

This means that vital support such as the Scottish Child Payment, the Winter Heating Payment, and the Young Carer grant will increase by 6.7% from the 1st of April.

In the face of a cost-of-living crisis caused by Westminster’s economic incompetence, the SNP Government is using the powers that they do have to support household budgets and ensure those who need it most get the help they need.

Commenting on the increase, Emma said:

“Despite continued cuts to spending on public services from Westminster, the SNP has chosen to prioritise helping those who need it most.

“Social Security Scotland assistance, including the vital Scottish Child Payment, go a long way in supporting folk across the Highlands & Islands, ensuring families are not living in poverty during these challenging economic times.

“From the 1st of April, each and every one of these support payments will increase in line with inflation by 6.7% – this is down to the SNP Government taking action to protect household budgets from a Westminster inflicted cost-of-living crisis.”
