EMMA PRAISES ECONOMIC IMPACT OF THE THIRD SECTOR IN THE HIGHLANDS

Emma has praised the third sector for the social and economic impact it has in the Highlands.

In a Members’ Debate on Wednesday [20th of March], Emma highlighted that the third sector covers “every part of life” and local third sector organisations, such as Eden Court, have a huge impact in the region.

Speaking after the debate, Emma said:

“We often speak about the societal impact of the third sector, which cannot be ignored, but the economic impact is often overlooked.

“It was wonderful to have the opportunity to focus on the economic advantages of our thriving third sector, as there are so many incredible things going on across the Highlands.

“It is hard to imagine, for example, what the Riverside in Inverness would be like without Eden Court. Now, it is the hive of activity for locals and tourists, with some fantastic events throughout the year.

“The third sector is responsible for an incredible amount of spending, and it is estimated Eden Court is worth £11.83 million to the Highland economy, with £7 being generated for every £1 of public funding.

“I am glad to have had the time in Parliament to highlight what the third sector brings to the Highlands, from supporting folk with their mental health to contributing economically, there are so many organisations to be proud of in the Highlands.”
