Highlands & Islands MSP says scheme’s milestone is a testament to SNP’s commitment to tackling child poverty
Highlands & Islands MSP Emma Roddick has welcomed the news that Scotland’s Baby Box has reached 250,000 deliveries across Scotland.
Speaking in the Scottish Parliament, Ms Roddick asked the Minister for Children and Young People, Clare Haughey, to provide an update on the number of baby boxes distributed since the scheme began and said she believed that the milestone was a clear reflection of the Scottish Government’s commitment to parents and families across Scotland.
She said:
“It is fantastic to see Scotland’s Baby Box reach this significant milestone.
“With the current cost of living crisis and household budgets under increasing pressure, the Baby Box is supporting parents by providing more than £400 worth of essential items for the first six months of their child’s life.
“The Baby Box is just one of many transformative actions the SNP is taking to make a real difference to children and families on low incomes – like the game-changing Scottish Child payment, which now totals £25 per week per child.
“While the SNP government continues to deliver bold policies in government for a fairer Scotland, with the limited powers at its disposal, it is only with the full powers of independence that we can properly build a better future that works for everyone.”
