Highlands and Islands MSP Emma Roddick has been announced as the guest speaker at this year’s Highland Pride. The event, which is planned for late July, is making its return following a three-year break during the coronavirus pandemic.
Ms Roddick, who is well known for championing equality and LGBTQI+ rights as the first out parliamentarian to ever be elected in the Highlands & Islands region, was announced as the event’s guest speaker on Monday evening [20th February], with organisers saying they are delighted to have her on board.
Commenting, she said:
“I’m thrilled to have been asked to be the guest speaker at this year’s Highland Pride event and so pleased to see it return after a long three years.
“These events are always so important, but, with increased political tension and attacks on the LGBTQ+ community, it is more needed than ever that we – and our allies – can come together, connect, and protest.
“After three years, the community has a lot to celebrate and a lot of pressure to put on politicians at every level, and I am very grateful to Highland Pride for, once again, organising this brilliant event which allows us to do that.
“I am very much looking forward to seeing and speaking to all attendees at this year’s event in the summer.”
