Emma Roddick has today praised the Scottish Government for challenging the UK Government on its supposed plans to unilaterally change the Northern Ireland Protocol, which was part of its Brexit deal, a course of action the Highlands and Islands MSP has described as “careless”.
Commenting Roddick said:
“It’s not surprising that the UK Government is being so careless with its approach to Northern Ireland, despite countless warnings given from all around. If the Tories won’t listen to the Scottish Government, the Irish Government, the First Minister Designate of Northern Ireland, the European Commission, and many, many more, then perhaps recent strong comments from the US House of Representatives stating that renegotiation is ‘not an option’ might give them pause.
“I am glad to hear that the Scottish Government shares my concern and has written to the UK Government to raise this. Many parties, including Scotland, would suffer in a Tory-made UK-EU trade war, so this swift action from Scottish Ministers is vital.”
