CONSULTATION: Roddick urges constituents to support enhancements to Highland Main Line

Highlands and Islands MSP Emma Roddick has welcomed the publication of the Second Strategic Transport Projects Review (STPR2), which sets out the Scottish Government’s priorities for transport funding for the next 20 years, and urged all constituents to respond to the online consultation on its draft report.

Commenting, Roddick said:

“The draft STPR2 report suggests a number of measures I have long believed are absolutely essential for our region, including enhancements on the Highland Main Line and the possibility of fixed links at the Sounds of Harris and Barra, and between Mull and the Scottish mainland.

“I was heartened to hear that the Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero, Energy and Transport sees improved connectivity for rural and island communities as a vital priority for STPR2, and that smaller and regional projects will still be considered for government funding if strong business cases for such funding emerge.

“The consultation on STPR2 is now open on the Scottish Government website at consult.gov.scot, and I strongly encourage all my constituents to contribute their thoughts on its proposals. Our communities have been given a chance to voice their clamour for the dualling and electrification of our main link to the Central Belt – let us use it.”
