Highlands and Islands SNP MSP Emma Roddick has welcomed the Scottish Government’s new rollout of the Child Disability Payment which will help with financial support for families of children with a disability.
For the first time anywhere in the UK, disability benefit applicants can apply for Child Disability Payment online, as well as by phone, post or face-to-face.
This is the first of three complex disability benefits to be introduced by the Scottish Government, with Adult Disability Payment to start next year.
Emma Roddick said:
“I am delighted that there are now a wider range of options to apply for disability benefits.
“This process must be both accessible and inclusive.
“I have helped many friends, constituents, and others with the arduous application process for DWP benefits.
“That this help will be less stressful to access is an encouraging sign of things to come with the Adult Disability Payment.
“Folk often forget that younger people can be disabled too, so the fact that this is the first of three disability payments that the Scottish Government is implementing will do wonders in challenging that assumption.”
