Dundreggan Rewilding Centre “fantastic idea” says Emma Roddick

Highlands and Islands MSP Emma Roddick has visited Dundreggan Rewilding Centre, developed by Trees for Life, to discuss the work they do, and their plans to make the forest more accessible to the public. Rewilding is the practice of restoring natural ecosystems to Scotland, by planting native trees and greenery – and encouraging wildlife to return to areas previously destroyed by deforestation.

The centre, due to open in 2022, will enable Trees for Life to welcome more people to the area. The centre will be aimed at helping people connect with the outdoors and Gaelic cultural heritage, whilst educating them on the importance of rewilding. The project hopes to ignite a passion for sustainability among visitors.

Speaking about the project, Roddick said:

“It is extremely important that we work together to conserve and protect Scotland’s natural ecosystems. In a world threatened by climate change, Trees for Life are doing vital work to rebuild our forests. Dundreggan Rewilding Centre will be a fantastic resource and I look forward to visiting again once it’s completed.”

“Community-led rewilding, coupled with ongoing land reform, will go a long way to ensuring Scotland’s future as a sustainable, comfortable and fair place to live.”

Dundreggan estate can be found just off the A887 Invermoriston to Skye road, a seven-mile drive from Invermoriston. More information about the project can be found on their website, https://treesforlife.org.uk/dundreggan/.
